چکیده

As a kind of highly effective, low‐cost, and stable photocatalysts, TiO2 has received substantial public and scientific attention. However, it can only be activated under ultraviolet light irradiation due to its wide bandgap, high recombination, and weak separation efficiency of carriers. Doping is an effective method to extend the light absorption to the visible light region. In this chapter, we will address the importance of doping, different doping modes, preparation method, and photocatalytic mechanism in TiO2 photocatalysts. Thereafter, we will concentrate on Ti3+ self‐doping, nonmetal doping, metal doping, and codoping. Examples of progress can be given for each one of these four doping modes. The influencing factors of preparation method and doping modes on photocatalytic performance (spectrum response, carrier transport, interfacial electron transfer reaction, surface active sites, etc.) are summed up. The main objective is to study the photocatalytic processes, to elucidate the mechanistic models for a better understand‐ ing the photocatalytic reactions, and to find a method of enhancing photocatalytic activities.

Photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue by 2 wt.% Fe doped TiO2 nanopowder under visible light irradiation

In this paper, 2wt.% Fe doped TiO2 nanopowder was prepared by a combination of sol-gel and mechanical alloying methods. The mechanical alloying of Fe powder with Ti(OH)4 gel produced from the sol-gel method was used to produce Fe doped TiO2 nanopowder. The synthesized samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and diffuse reflectan...

Photocatalytic degradation of E. coli bacteria using TiO2/SiO2 nanoparticles with photodeposited platinum

In this work, TiO2 /SiO2 (pure anatase), and TiO2 /SiO2 (anatase/rutile) nano-photocatalysts are prepared by using sol-gel method and control of acidity. The particles size is calculated using Scheerer, s equation and is estimated to be around 7-15 nm. In order to improve the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 /SiO2 ,1% (wt) platinum particles are loaded on both catalysts using photoreductive meth...

Nano- TiO2/Nd Deposited on -Fe2O3 as a Magnetically Separable Photocatalyst

TiO2/Magnetit and TiO2/Nd/Magnetit were prepared and used for photocatalytic decomposition of the methylorange as a pollutant. TiO2 and TiO2/Nd were prepared by sol gel method and were characterized using XRD, FT IR and TEM. The prepared catalysts were deposited on magnetite surface to have a catalyst with magnetite core. So the catalyst can be separated easily from the waste solution by a magn...

Modification mechanism of praseodymium doping for the photocatalytic performance of TiO2: a combined experimental and theoretical study.

Impurity doping is a simple and efficient modification method to improve the photocatalytic performance of wide band gap photocatalysts. However, some basic and important issues about the mechanism of impurity doping modification still need to be further confirmed and explained. In the present work, Pr-doped TiO2 with a mono-phase crystal structure was prepared by a sol-gel method. Then, the cr...
